Creative Assignment: 3D Modeling

For this assignment, I used Nomad to create an abstract 3D form that turns a body into a structure that must support and sustain. I started with a simplified torso so the form would be immediately readable as a body. It has no face, no clear orientation, and no access to the outside world. Without eyes or a mouth, it cannot perceive, respond, or communicate. The head folds inward, as if withdrawing from any external relation.

From there, I stretched the form downward into four supports, forcing it into a stable, load-bearing position. As I adjusted the proportions, the body stopped feeling like something that acts and began to feel like something that functions. The back flattened, and the figure started to resemble a surface that exists to carry weight. The enlarged, downward-pulling breasts intensify this condition. Hanging low and close to the ground, they emphasize weight, drag, and continuous strain. In the absence of any sign of intention, this state reads as ongoing. The body is not choosing to give; it is structured to continue.

The stability of the form makes this condition feel fixed. It does not move, and it does not collapse. It is held in a position where it must endure its own weight and the demand to carry. What remains is a body that persists without agency, caught in a closed system of support and exhaustion. If I continue this work, I would push this condition further by making the structure more extreme and removing any remaining sense of autonomy.
