Impact 25

Impact 25

This project developed through a series of guided interviews conducted in collaboration with Joyce. Together we spoke with friends and family members, and their responses shaped the final work in both visual and sound forms. Portions of their voices were composed into an abstract sound piece played on a digital device, while other responses were translated into visual forms on paper and arranged in a circular ring. Each golden ring represents one participant and reflects their past, present, and future, forming a three phase structure that suggests the ongoing cycle of life and change over time.

Through the process of conducting 25 interviews, we observed how guided questions encouraged participants to revisit memories and reflect on their identities. Many participants recalled childhood interests or experiences that had faded with time, and several described how their sense of self had shifted since childhood. Working together allowed us to reach a wider circle of participants and made the conversations feel more personal. The project revealed stories and experiences we had not heard before, including shared challenges within our generation. Participants also became curious about one another’s responses, which added another layer of dialogue to the work.
